The Torngat Mountains National Park Reserve is approximately 200 km north of Nain, where the park office is located. A significant archeological site, the Torngat Mountains have been home to Inuit and their predecessors for thousands of years. The park encompasses 9,700 sq km (3,745 sq mi) of pristine wilderness: glaciers, mountain peaks, fjords, valleys, coastal cliffs and plateaus, and polar bears, black bears, caribou and Arctic hares are also found in the area. Visitors enjoy hiking, fishing, wilderness camping, mountain climbing, sailing, backcountry skiing and photography within the park's boundaries.
